Joe Kidd

Joe Kidd:

An American poet born and raised in the Motor City. Grew up in the 50’s & 60’s as the world was reforming to the soundtrack of Motown and the British Invasion, Dylan, and later to the psychedelic sounds of Hendrix, The Doors, etc. Spending time reading Rumi, Twain, Castaneda, & Kerouac. Attended high school in Buena Park California.
Witnessed the Detroit battleground of 1967, the Tigers world series, and the emergence of The White Panther Party, John Sinclair, and the MC5.

Began writing at around 17 yrs. Left home to live in Ann Arbor in a commune called The Congolian Maulers. Worked in a traveling carnival for a season. Joined the Teamsters Union. Attended college at Sacred Heart Catholic Seminary in Detroit.
Married and divorced he has 1 child, a daughter that is following in his footsteps but cutting her own individual path.

In 1979 Joe Kidd (rhythm guitar) and Killer Wail (lead guitar) formed the band called The White Lines. They recorded the record titled Cos Youre Not in 1980. In June of 2017 Joe and The White Lines were inducted into the Michigan Rock & Roll Legends Hall Of Fame.

10 years ago Joe Kidd met Sheila Burke. The instant bonding soon changed the course of both of their lives. Together they have appeared in 25 states, Mexico, Canada, 8 countries in Western Europe. Their 2015 album titled Everybody Has A Purpose is still being heard around the world after garnering recognition from the Michigan Governor’s Office, The U.S. House of Representatives, and more.

Joe published his first book of verse in May of 2020 titled The Invisible Waterhole. It was a landmark occurrence that has provided opportunities to join forces with literary compatriots of every style. Invitations to read and contribute have come from sources including Alien Buddha Press, Americans & Others, Angora Poets World Cafe, Cajun Mutt Press, Fevers Of The Mind, Glomag, Live Encounters, Lothlorian Poetry, Rye Whiskey Review, Stone Soup Magazine, Oddball Magazine, World Inkers, and countless others that have had the courage to print his work which has been translated into Spanish, French, and Vietnamese.

Joe is currently enrolled as a member of the National & International Beat Poet Foundation (USA), Angora Poets (Paris France), and 100,000 Poets For Change. He was recently named Official Poet of the Government of Birland. (a fledgling nation in north east Africa)
